WALTHAM, MASS. (May 14, 2024) – Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) announced that Yarmouth Brownie Girl Scout Emma H. is this year’s top Girl Scout Cookie seller in eastern Massachusetts for the second straight year. What’s believed to be a new record for the region, Emma sold 7,443 packages of Girl Scout Cookies during this year’s cookie program, which spans early December through early March in Massachusetts.
Emma and every member of her troop were among the 564 Girl Scouts who sold at least 500 packages of Girl Scout Cookies, working tirelessly selling Girl Scouts Cookies door-to-door and through booth sales around the community. Members of the “500 Club” get to participate in a special outing at Canobie Lake Park this summer, and Emma will spend a day as “CEO.”
“My goal was to sell 5,000 boxes this year. I wanted to go over what I did last year and be the top seller of all time,” said Emma H. “I love selling cookies because I get to talk to so many people that love Girl Scouts and tell them about my badges. My favorite part of doing cookie booth is that I get to count money and give change.”
The Girl Scout Cookie Program has long served as a lesson in entrepreneurship as participants learn essential skills like money management, public speaking, and decision-making skills to set them up for a lifetime of success. As the largest entrepreneurship program for girls in the world, every cookie purchase is an investment in the world-changing business leaders of tomorrow.
This year, 14,012 Girl Scouts in eastern Massachusetts participated in the iconic program, selling over 1.9 million packages of Girl Scout Cookies, with Thin Mints again being the most popular.
“Congrats to Emma and all of our Girl Scouts for their dedication, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit all-season selling cookies out in the community,” said Barbara Fortier, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. “The Girl Scout Cookie sale isn't just about cookies; it's about empowering girls to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers. It's a cornerstone of the Girl Scout experience, shaping future leaders and fostering a lifetime of success and I am so proud of all our youth.”
Net proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program stay local to help troops fund their activities throughout the year.
