This training allows volunteers to be the boating-qualified person for canoe activities on flat water. This training follows the Small Craft Safety class and provides volunteers with qualification to lead canoeing on GSEMA properties. Must be confident in canoeing/paddling skills prior to class; this is not a learn-to-paddle opportunity.
Materials will be sent with confirmation. Class time will be spent in canoes and on/in the water practicing canoe skills and rescue procedures.
Be prepared to swamp canoes and be in and out of the water; bring extra clothes and GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints approved water shoes. Bring lunch/snacks and refillable water bottle.
