This training is required for volunteers to lead canoe activities on GSEMA properties and other flat water. Attendees must be proficient in canoeing/paddling prior to class. This is NOT a learn-to-paddle opportunity. Be prepared to get wet, as some of this training will be spent practicing in-water rescue procedures and recovery techniques.
Materials will be sent with confirmation. Class time will be spent in canoes and on/in the water practicing canoe skills and rescue procedures. Be prepared to swamp canoes and be in and out of the water; bring extra clothes and GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints approved water shoes. Bring lunch/snacks and refillable water bottle.
